Slavery

Explain the use of Spirituals and what they were -

Spirituals are music that slaves would sing to express emotion or for religious traditions.
Explain who Harriet Tubman and what the Underground Railroad was- Harriet Tubman was an ex-slave who leads around 300 slaves over 19 and used the Underground Railroad to escape. she also never lost a slave, after saving the slaves she joins the Union as a scout, and she cured dysentery.
Write about a spiritual you chose and highlight some lyrics and the hidden messages behind them- wade in the water was a spiritual that the slaves would sing in their bush meetings. their bush meetings were when their masters were in church and they weren't allowed in. so they meet up and would sing songs and pray. as the masters believed they were unholy. Wade in the water was a spiritual that had a secret meaning which was to swim in the water cause the master's dogs can't track them.
How are these events still significant today- Black lives matter is a protest against racism and racist cops
